Recreation Specialist
Full-Time
Location: Northampton, MA
Pay Rate: $20/hour
Position Description:
Responsible for performing a variety of duties to support families who have a member with a disability and/or autism by providing training, information, family contact, referrals to other services; conduct interest and social skills inventories; plan and deliver a variety of social and recreation program and opportunities; connect individuals with recreation opportunities in the community; educating the community regarding disabilities and/or autism; serve as trainer for all ServiceNet employees as well as external professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and group support to families in day and outreach programs.
- Assess individual and group interest, availability, and needs.
- Design, create or adapt classes to meet the needs of changing populations.
- Develop curriculum and teach classes based on the needs and interests of the group.
- Act as liaison between programs, families, providers and allied professionals on routine programmatic or related matters.
- Work with DDS, supervisor, other ServiceNet divisions, schools and families to provide coordination, assistance and resources to support the individual’s recreation and social needs.
- Promote community integration by advocating for inclusion with community organization; encourage and support individuals and family member in their participation in community experiences.
- Develop an extensive community network through a diversity of contacts and maintain broad base of knowledge of services available to families.
- Conduct established group and individualized trainings for meaningful, healthy relationships.
- Serve as Whole Children/Milestones/Whole Selves representatives at relevant conferences, workshops and on committees.
- Responsible for various outreach efforts to families including catalog of programs, website, personal contacts, social media, etc.
- Assist Program Manager in the development of proposal requests, training efforts, policies, procedures and event coordination.
- Remain current on trends, legislation, resources in the industry that will affect families and the resources available.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years direct experience working with families or individuals with disabilities.
- Experience in developing classes, activities or trainings for individuals with disabilities.
- Broad knowledge of disability support needs and services.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft office (Word, Outlook & Excel), communication platforms such as zoom or webex, health record or other databases.
- Bi-lingual preferred.
- Have and maintain a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- Reliable transportation/vehicle.
