Assistant Controller
Reports To: Controller
Full-Time
Location: Northampton, MA
Schedule: Monday - Friday 9a-5p
Salary: $95,000 - 110,000 (Based on experience)

Position Summary
The Assistant Controller plays a key leadership role within the Fiscal Department, overseeing Accounts Payable, Staff Accountants, and Purchasing functions. This position ensures accuracy of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and efficiency of day-to-day operations. The Assistant Controller serves as a leader and mentor, advancing a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Staff Accountants.
  • Assist with monthly close process and preparation of financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit regulations, and funding requirements.
  • Support annual audit, tax filings, and grant reporting.
  • Assist in budget development, monitoring, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Lead process improvements in accounting, purchasing, and financial systems.
  • Provide leadership, training, and development to accounting staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Controller or Chief Financial Officer.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; MBA/MSA preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Nonprofit or healthcare finance experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring ability.
  • Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems and Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
