We’re growing our Peer Specialist teams in Franklin County to further engage those who’ve been referred to us for services. If you have lived experience with mental health or substance use recovery, and a passion for helping others identify their own gifts and potential, let’s talk.
As a Peer Specialist / Mentor, you will:
- Listen to, support, and partner with people who are moving forward in their recovery
- Offer perspective from your own experience
- Help people connect—with each other and in the community
Whether you’ve lived with a mental health challenge, yourself, or with a family member who has; or whether you are in continuing substance use recovery, the experience you’ve gained along the way is one of your greatest strengths. You know it, and so do the people participating in our programs. Enthusiastic and flexible, you are comfortable with people from all kinds of backgrounds. You also welcome opportunities to share your insights and skills in ways you might never have imagined—from helping start a new discussion group, to finding space for an art show, to collaborating with an area farm.
Certified Peer Specialists (CPS), if you’ve not already been certified, you may obtain CPS certification while on the job. Recovery Coaches, you have worked with people who are either in substance use recovery or who are exploring ways to end substance use; and certification as a Recovery Coach would be a big plus. And Family Specialists, you’re experts at helping people manage crises as they arise, and are familiar with navigating the system to help a loved one. Since each of these roles involves driving across a fairly wide territory, you will also need to have a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
